Your computer always starts and moves quickly right out of the box. As you add programs and an anti-virus program it slows down. An anti-virus will slow your computer down, but you need this bit of essential software. However, there are ways to speed up a computer.

The first thing is to remove unnecessary programs that came with the computer and those you do not use. Incidentally, these weather update programs definitely slow a computer. Go into the control panel and make sure none of the programs not used often are not tied to the startup. If they are it will take forever for the computer to get up to speed.

Periodically defragment your disk, which puts similar types of files together. In the control panel there is also an option to removed unused files. These two operations should be performed regularly and at the same time you are checking the computer.

There is a program called C Cleaner. This will get rid of registry and other things that waste your space. You can also do something similar by deleting past history, but the C Cleaner will do this. Be careful not to delete saved passwords or you will have a problem getting into things if you forgot the passwords.

The more you search the internet and add programs, the computer slows, because the memory capability is decreasing and you are gathering tracking information put into your computer. When your memory is low, a computer slows down and there is not much that can be done, aside from getting a new computer or adding memory.

It is frustrating when a computer takes forever to startup, especially when someone is on the phone with questions and the computer is not yet operational. Run an anti-virus program regularly in full mode. Viruses and spyware slows a computer down considerably.

Older computers will be slower to some extent, so follow these procedures. It saves money by not having to go out and purchase a new computer. A laptop will always run slower than a desktop, unless the laptop is next to the router or the line goes right into the laptop.

In closing, the less your computer has running in the background will directly result in more resources it has for running the programs that you actually want to use. Never install a program you don't intend to use and be very careful on what type of software you install.
